  • How does cryptocurrency mining generate money?
Making money by using processing power might seem surprising to many people, but it's actually been a widespread practice that has existed since the creation of the first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, in 2008. While it is no longer profitable to mine Bitcoin itself, however, several "altcoins," are still profitable to mine. Mining cryptocurrency, at its most basic level, means using raw proccessing power to help the cyrpotcurrency network verify the authenticity of transactions. Because cryptocurrency networks don't have a centralized authority (such as a bank) to prevent fraud, a system called "Proof of Work" is used by these cryptocurrency networks. Anyone around the world can volunteer proccessing power to the cryptocurrency networks, and in return for their assistance, the network automatically pays out small amounts of cryptocurrency. • How does Manifold make money?
In order to keep providing our service and the critical functions associated with it, we set aside a portion of the cryptocurrency Manifold generates before we sell it. This guarantees that we can keep improving our software and the efficiency of our services, as well as covering legal, business, and any other fees. Currently, the portion is around 15%, but as Manifold becomes more mainstream, we should be able to drastically lower that percentage. The more people use Manifold, the more efficent we can become.
  • How do we select charities?
We select Manifold's default charities based on a combination of user demand and the Non-Profit's reputation. While we already support a wide variety of charities by default (in the application's drop down list), we also hope to continue to add entities through our 6-digit code system.
